You will definitely need your own set for home. There are electronic options that make it a lot more "family friendly." In the beginning, a practice pad is perfectly fine and an inexpensive option! I'm going to give you a different answer than you've probably heard before, because while we do hold degrees in music I've seen too many amazing musicians with amazing accolades who were just not great at teaching. It takes a whole separate set of skills to be an effective teacher. In fact, my first job as a music teacher was just after junior college and I remember being amazed at how little the head instructor/owner of the school knew about music! However, I can't say that I was the best teacher, despite my knowledge. Years of experience have made me the teacher I am today. So while music education is very important to us, the quality of instruction is paramount.
